About Slater and Gordon

Slater and Gordon is a national plaintiff and compensation law firm. William Slater and Hugh Gordon founded it in Melbourne in 1935 to act for unions. Slater & Gordon later listed on the ASX. Its history page records an April 2023 change after a successful off-market takeover bid by a subsidiary of private equity firm Allegro Funds. At that point, the ASX removed it from its official list. It then became an unlisted public company and subsidiary of Allegro. The parent entity on ABN Lookup is Slater & Gordon Ltd, an Australian public company based in Victoria.

Queensland offices

In Queensland, the firm’s Brisbane office is on Level 21, 215 Adelaide Street, near Central Station. Its Brisbane pages also list other greater Brisbane offices at Cleveland, Brookwater and Loganholme. Elsewhere in Queensland, it lists offices on the Gold Coast, including Bundall and Burleigh Heads. It also lists offices in Bundaberg, Cairns, Hervey Bay, Rockhampton, the Sunshine Coast, Townsville and Toowoomba. Finally, the firm’s published contact number is a national 1800 line.

Claims and fees

The firm’s compensation practice covers workers’ compensation, motor vehicle accidents, medical negligence, public liability, and asbestos and silica diseases. For motor vehicle accidents, its Brisbane page refers to accidents in a car, on a motorcycle, tractor, quad bike or forklift. Separately, it lists military compensation and Comcare. Its other practice groups also include superannuation and insurance claims, abuse law and class actions.

Slater and Gordon offers a No Win, No Fee arrangement. It says this means a client who does not win does not pay the fees for the work done on the case. Conditions apply, and a separate page sets them out. In addition, the firm offers a no-obligation free initial meeting. This can take place at an office, by video call, or at the client’s home or hospital. However, the pages reviewed for this profile did not set out how the firm treats disbursements or uplift fees.

Rankings and accreditation

Doyle’s Guide’s 2026 Queensland plaintiff rankings list Slater & Gordon in the Leading tier for institutional abuse compensation. It is also in the Recommended tier for public liability, medical negligence, motor vehicle accident, work injury, and asbestos and dust diseases compensation. This profile does not name a Queensland Law Society Accredited Specialist, because the sources reviewed could not confirm one.
