How we make money and stay independent

As for how we make money, at present this site carries no advertising and takes no money from law firms. We never accept payment for listings, rankings, referrals or leads, so no firm can pay to appear or to move up. If we ever add advertising, it will be clearly labelled and kept apart from the rankings.

How we make money: a gavel on a document

What we never accept

  • Referral fees or commissions for sending people to a law firm.
  • Lead fees, pay-per-call or pay-per-enquiry arrangements.
  • Paid placements, paid rankings or “featured” positions.
  • Payment to add, remove or change any fact on a firm’s profile.

In Queensland, paying or receiving money for personal injury claim referrals is illegal (Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002 s 71).

Why rankings cannot be bought

Every score comes from public facts and a published formula. So the ranking order changes only when a checked fact changes. For example, a firm moves up if a QLS register check confirms a new Accredited Specialist. See how we rank lawyers.

If this ever changes

If the site ever carries advertising, it will be clearly labelled. It will also sit apart from the rankings and never affect a score. We will update this page first, together with our editorial standards.
